Soon after this picture was taken we were caught in a torrential downpour ( an experience familiar to all Tealers) near Cirencester, with stair rod rain blown horizontally by a gusting gale for 40 minutes; we climbed out of the Teal at our hotel in Stroud, as others Teals arrived for the rendez-vous, absolutely soaked but happy – we had passed the first test…. all Tealers will know the feeling!

And there are two more Tealers who have probably led more Teal adventures in the last 20 years than anyone else in their sensible way. These are Captain and Mrs Sensible themselves, Glen and Maggie, in their fine Teal four-seater Grand Tourer ( with hood). But these are not mere wimps: they have also owned a Teal two-seater boat tail (now ‘Vital Spark’) and a Mike King Type 59 Replica (both without hoods…) Here are Glen and Maggie on Spider Run 2 in their well-travelled Teal (also called Captain Sensible…)
Glen coined these golden words, illustrating the essence of Tealing:

The Tealers in France – late June 2016
An adventurous fifteen Tealers in eight cars set off for France on 19th June, first assembling at Colin and Irené Andrews’ lovely home near Oxford before heading south for Portsmouth…

The Tealers were welcomed to a delightful Norman chateau by the lovely French family who owned it …with members of the family seated in Neil’s four-seater Type 35 grand tourer Phoenix…(also photographed below)

On long-distance Teal trips such as this one a tool kit is a necessity, and the convenient space behind the seats in the boat tail is a great place to stow tools and cheeses. Here the basics have certainly been covered.

LONG-LOST TEAL RE-DISCOVERED ABROAD
This unique one-off Teal was specially built in the 1980s by Bob Jones with Peter Farrell (his chassis welder) for the Farrells… and disappeared abroad in 1989. It has doors and running boards – ultra rare for a Teal! It is Teal of the Week No 64, and has apparently been sitting in a barn in Belgium for the past 27 years. It has now been purchased by splendid Tealers David Brown and Janice ( already Type 59 owners), and will shortly be returned to UK – excellent news! It naturally requires some work to make it roadworthy again. Watch this space for more details in a few weeks’ time. Bravo, David.

TEALS AT PRESCOTT – 2016

A glorious sight on a happy weekend – and in an appropriate location….but the fun didn’t end there. John Honey-King then led the Tealers on a glorious tour:
TEALS ROAM GLOUCESTERSHIRE AND SHROPSHIRE
At the Cotswold Air Museum; sharp-eyed viewers will have noticed that the front two cars are not Teals, but very welcome members of the Teal Owners Club.
Aviation enthusiasts will have noticed the Gloucester Meteor jet fighters in the background. Your correspondent was lucky enough to train on these beauties as an RAF navigator at RAF Stradishall in Suffolk in 1964, and here we are below in Meteor Night Fighter Mark 14s in training colours:
(Nothing to do with the Teal Tour, but the pull of nostalgia was too strong for me to resist…) Back to the tour:
One of the many joys of rural Shropshire is admiring a tail of Teals snaking up the Long Mynd, one of A.E. Housman’s glorious Blue Remembered Hills; here on top of the world Phil and Dot greet the camera from their glorious blue remembered Teal.
Shropshire is well provided with many fine stately homes, and Wendy and John Honey-King being a Shropshire couple were able to lead Tealers to some of the finest…
The air blowing across the high hills along the Welsh border is uplifting , and therefore condusive to gliding. Among the company were skilled air pilots Neil and Colin. We must ask if they became airborne.
Speaking of Colin, it is well known in Teal circles that he is rather fond of his grub. Colin has never knowingly passed an open feeder, and here the lovely Puddle Jumper outside Mr Bun The Baker bears silent witness to Colin’s abiding search for sustenance.
Puddle Jumper (and Colin) are two of the most respected and senior members of the Teal Owners Club – what a beautiful Teal, with a magical split screen windscreen. Colin’s not bad looking too.
Mind you, Neil Bridges wasn’t far behind Colin in the British Bun stakes. Here Neil’s splendid four-seater Phoenix awaits his guiding hand. Thanks for these happy photos, Neil

NETHERLANDS RE-BUILD
In Holland distinguished Tealer (well,two Teals actually) Aaldert has been carrying out a major re-build on his unique (and very beautiful) Type 43 Teal. This has included major work on the engine ( Triumph 6/2500 ), gearbox and drive train including the rear axle… here are some photos of the details:

We’re just back from lovely Malta (OK, I’m biased, Francesca is from Malta), where several Tealers have spotted this fine Teal parked outside their excellent Classic Car Museum at Qawra. It’s a sort of come-on to lure visitors into the museum, and it works. The Bugatti badge probably helps.

At David Ward’s Egham garage yesterday (21 Sep) I was delighted to see four Teals: Dizzy, Gigi, David’s own DNA, and the splendid Teal Grand Tourer (‘The Cream Cracker’), repatriated by David B and Janice after 28 years in Belgium – a fine car re-discovered.
My main purpose at David’s was for my MG TF: a cleaning underneath, de-rust of surface rust and then waxoil of key areas, as well as the annual MOT test. I also spent a delightful day with David chatting about all things Teal and much else, and drove back happily, with the top down and the wind in the hair, through sunlit September Surrey and Sussex – all Tealers will know that feeling of joy on the winding minor road, surrounded by open fields and woodlands, and a with a responsive car in one’s hands – a total delight!

SEPTEMBER 2016: TEALERS IN N. WALES
From 4th to 7th September, 21 Tealers * met up in Llangollen, North Wales, for a Teal club get-together organised by Glen and Maggi, with a magnificent wind-blown drive round the hills and narrow lanes of rural Wales, preceded by a day out in two rented narrow-boats on the Llangollen Canal, and by a visit to the local car museum. Emphasis was also on the social side in the Chainbridge Hotel, built right alongside the impressive, noisy, fast-flowing, rocky River Dee in spate.

At the Llangollen Car Museum on the Sunday, three wise men (well, John, Colin and George) admire Tealer Vince’s magnificent Onyx ( a little jewel ) with Teals beyond…the Onyx is also seen below:
The Onyx’s beautifully-finished 1400 cc K-Series engine is shown here. Vince is a perfectionist, and it shows.
On the narrow boats on the beautiful Monday it quickly became clear that two Tealers stood out as to the rudder born, captains of their vessels: Colin and John. Others, including notably your correspondent, belonged to the crash and bump school, as they zig-zagged erratically downstream, colliding with anything that obstructed their passage…. Here are the natural stars, and their shipmates:
The Tuesday Teal Run departed at a leisurely 1000, guided by Glen and Maggi, who led us up into the hills via the dramatic Horseshoe Pass, then threading via a good B-road through attractive scenery to join the A5 and a pit stop for coffee (and Vimto) at the Country Cooks Cafe at Corwen (good car park too). As we swung north in close formation dark clouds gathered, and we pulled into Betys-y-Coed for exploration and lunch – hoods went up and tonneaus went on as the drizzle continued (well, we were in Wales after all). Our leader (Captain Sensible) was reasonably confident that the skies would clear after lunch, and so it proved: A wizard return run through narrow lanes, snaking hill roads, cattle grids and sheep hazards ensued, ending back at Llangollen town for ice cream, Coronation chicken sandwiches, and Welsh cream teas with Earl Grey (not all at once).

DUTCH TREAT
MAGNIFICENT NEW TEAL TYPE 43
Our Teal colleage in the Netherlands Aaldert Postma has been on a five-year mission to design a new Teal Type 43, commission the car and have it built in the UK by Mike Hall, transport it to Holland, re-engineer the 2500 Triumph straight 6 motor, sort out the transmission system, commission a totally new 1920s-look hood, install electrics and instruments, trim and paint the beauty and then put her on the road for trials. His dedication has been rewarded in August 2016 near Amsterdam when this magnificent Teal Type 43 finally took to the roads as seen here on its trial run – with no faults found.
The delightful result, with Teal badge proudly displayed at the top of the radiator mesh, deserves the highest praise. We congratulate you, Aaldert, for both the concept and the determination over several years to make this fine Teal a reality. She makes an admirable companion for your other Teal, her splendid sister Type 35 below. Bravo! Een uitstekend resultaat!

Re-discovered in Somerset this month (August 2016) is this early Teal Type 35, fibreglass but with a steel bonnet; unusually for an early car it is complete with a Triumph 6-cylinder 2000 cc motor, and is for sale at £10,000….

TEALS – Mid-August 2016
Last month Neil and Pam of Phoenix fame joined Colin and Fiona (Vital Spark) at Tealer’s John and Wendy’s in Shropshire for a few days of Tealing (and eating). Here Fiona and Colin come face-to-face with a sheep drove up John and Wendy’s drive – luckily Vital Spark can take it….

TEALS ABROAD
The question is often asked: are there many Teals abroad? The answer is yes. Where? people then ask. Well, let’s start with Japan – above is Mr Tominari’s fine Type 59 Teal parked outside a Tokyo restaurant.

OK, that was a Teal Type 59 in Japan, but what about a bit further away?
Robin Day is a fine wine creator in the vineyards of Southern Australia, and he also has a fine taste in cars: here he is above in his Teal Type 59 on the day when our own Oz Tealer Keith Lidgerwood (now sadly departed) visited him there three or four years ago, and ….
…here’s the cockpit and exhaust detail of Robin’s fine Type 59. A couple of glasses of the finest red were consumed that day, I believe.

OK, that’s a Teal Type 59 in Japan, and also in Australia – and there’s another Type 59 in the Southern Hemisphere – in Johannesburg, South Africa:
Jim Cope imported this beauty from Cambridge, UK, in 2014, and has had considerable work done on the cooling system, since the high altitude and considerable heat of Johannesburg led to a tendency to overheat. The wheels were blue, but are now back to silver, with some additional charming details on this fine Type 59:

Variable Distance Teal
‘What’s that?’, you ask quite reasonably – a variable distance Teal? A variable distance from home, that is, home where it was conceived – sometimes thousands of miles, sometimes 30 miles (Liverpool); because this Teal is an attraction on a cruise ship…
How many other Teals are there abroad? We don’t know, but here’s an estimate:
France (5+), Belgium (3+), Netherlands (5+), Germany (5+), Irish Republic (1+) Switzerland (1), Spain (2+), Italy (1+), Malta (2), Cyprus (2), South Africa (1),Japan (1), Australia (1). Thus there are at least 30 Teals abroad, with possibly as many as 50.
Does any Tealer have better knowledge of the number of Teals abroad? Any updates most welcome! Scandinavia? Austria? Canada? USA? Thank you.

I also spent a delightful day with David chatting about all things Teal and much else, and drove back happily, with the top down and the wind in the hair, through sunlit September Surrey and Sussex – all Tealers will know that feeling of joy on the winding minor road, surrounded by open fields and woodlands, and a with a responsive car in one’s hands – a total delight!

SEPTEMBER 2016: TEALERS IN N. WALES
From 4th to 7th September, 21 Tealers * met up in Llangollen, North Wales, for a Teal club get-together organised by Glen and Maggi, with a magnificent wind-blown drive round the hills and narrow lanes of rural Wales, preceded by a day out in two rented narrow-boats on the Llangollen Canal, and by a visit to the local car museum. Emphasis was also on the social side in the Chainbridge Hotel, built right alongside the impressive, noisy, fast-flowing, rocky River Dee in spate.

At the Llangollen Car Museum on the Sunday, three wise men (well, John, Colin and George) admire Tealer Vince’s magnificent Onyx ( a little jewel ) with Teals beyond…the Onyx is also seen below:
The Onyx’s beautifully-finished 1400 cc K-Series engine is shown here. Vince is a perfectionist, and it shows.
On the narrow boats on the beautiful Monday it quickly became clear that two Tealers stood out as to the rudder born, captains of their vessels: Colin and John. Others, including notably your correspondent, belonged to the crash and bump school, as they zig-zagged erratically downstream, colliding with anything that obstructed their passage…. Here are the natural stars, and their shipmates:
The Tuesday Teal Run departed at a leisurely 1000, guided by Glen and Maggi, who led us up into the hills via the dramatic Horseshoe Pass, then threading via a good B-road through attractive scenery to join the A5 and a pit stop for coffee (and Vimto) at the Country Cooks Cafe at Corwen (good car park too). As we swung north in close formation dark clouds gathered, and we pulled into Betys-y-Coed for exploration and lunch – hoods went up and tonneaus went on as the drizzle continued (well, we were in Wales after all). Our leader (Captain Sensible) was reasonably confident that the skies would clear after lunch, and so it proved: A wizard return run through narrow lanes, snaking hill roads, cattle grids and sheep hazards ensued, ending back at Llangollen town for ice cream, Coronation chicken sandwiches, and Welsh cream teas with Earl Grey (not all at once).
* The splendid Tealers on this welcome Welsh gathering were Maggi and Glen, June and Andy, Dot and Phil, Irené and Colin, Jean and Rupert, Janice and David, Pam and Neil, Wendy and John, Bob, Vince, George, Francesca and Brian.

MAGNIFICENT NEW TEAL TYPE 43
Our Teal colleage in the Netherlands Aaldert Postma has been on a five-year mission to design a new Teal Type 43, commission the car and have it built in the UK by Mike Hall, transport it to Holland, re-engineer the 2500 Triumph straight 6 motor, sort out the transmission system, commission a totally new 1920s-look hood, install electrics and instruments, trim and paint the beauty and then put her on the road for trials. His dedication has been rewarded in August 2016 near Amsterdam when this magnificent Teal Type 43 finally took to the roads as seen here on its trial run – with no faults found.
The delightful result, with Teal badge proudly displayed at the top of the radiator mesh, deserves the highest praise. We congratulate you, Aaldert, for both the concept and the determination over several years to make this fine Teal a reality. She makes an admirable companion for your other Teal, her splendid sister Type 35 below. Bravo! Een uitstekend resultaat!

TEALS – Mid-August 2016
Last month Neil and Pam of Phoenix fame joined Colin and Fiona (Vital Spark) at Tealer’s John and Wendy’s in Shropshire for a few days of Tealing (and eating). Here Fiona and Colin come face-to-face with a sheep drove up John and Wendy’s drive – luckily Vital Spark can take it….

The question is often asked: are there many Teals abroad? The answer is yes. Where? people then ask. Well, let’s start with Japan – above is Mr Tominari’s fine Type 59 Teal parked outside a Tokyo restaurant.

Robin Day is a fine wine creator in the vineyards of Southern Australia, and he also has a fine taste in cars: here he is above in his Teal Type 59 on the day when our own Oz Tealer Keith Lidgerwood (now sadly departed) visited him there three or four years ago, and ….
…here’s the cockpit and exhaust detail of Robin’s fine Type 59. A couple of glasses of the finest red were consumed that day, I believe.

Jim Cope imported this beauty from Cambridge, UK, in 2014, and has had considerable work done on the cooling system, since the high altitude and considerable heat of Johannesburg led to a tendency to overheat. The wheels were blue, but are now back to silver, with some additional charming details on this fine Type 59:

Variable Distance Teal
‘What’s that?’, you ask quite reasonably – a variable distance Teal? A variable distance from home, that is, home where it was conceived – sometimes thousands of miles, sometimes 30 miles (Liverpool); because this Teal is an attraction on a cruise ship…
How many other Teals are there abroad? We don’t know, but here’s an estimate:
France (5+), Belgium (3+), Netherlands (5+), Germany (5+), Irish Republic (1+) Switzerland (1), Spain (2+), Italy (1+), Malta (2), Cyprus (2), South Africa (1),Japan (1), Australia (1). Thus there are at least 30 Teals abroad, with possibly as many as 50.
Does any Tealer have better knowledge of the number of Teals abroad? Any updates most welcome! Scandinavia? Austria? Canada? USA? Thank you.

We’re just back from lovely Malta (OK, I’m biased, Francesca is from Malta), where several Tealers have spotted this fine Teal parked outside their excellent Classic Car Museum at Qawra. It’s a sort of come-on to lure visitors into the museum, and it works. The Bugatti badge probably helps.

At David Ward’s Egham garage yesterday (21 Sep) I was delighted to see four Teals: Dizzy, Gigi, David’s own DNA, and the splendid Teal Grand Tourer (‘The Cream Cracker’), repatriated by David B and Janice after 28 years in Belgium – a fine car re-discovered.

Re-discovered in Somerset this month (August 2016) is this early Teal Type 35, fibreglass but with a steel bonnet; unusually for an early car it is complete with a Triumph 6-cylinder 2000 cc motor, and is for sale at £10,000….

Last month Neil and Pam of Phoenix fame joined Colin and Fiona (Vital Spark) at Tealer’s John and Wendy’s in Shropshire for a few days of Tealing (and eating). Here Fiona and Colin come face-to-face with a sheep drove up John and Wendy’s drive – luckily Vital Spark can take it….
and Pam was chosen (unsurprisingly) as Miss Shropshire Honey, promoting the good stuff on John and Wendy’s Shropshire Honey stall …

Here Pam prepares Phoenix for the journey from Ludlow back to Sheffield while Neil is on camera – such improptu Teal gatherings are the very essence of the Club – and great fun. Our best wishes to The Shropshire Six….

TEALS ABROAD
The question is often asked: are there many Teals abroad? The answer is yes. Where? people then ask. Well, let’s start with Japan – above is Mr Tominari’s fine Type 59 Teal parked outside a Tokyo restaurant.

OK, that was a Teal Type 59 in Japan, but what about a bit further away?
Robin Day is a fine wine creator in the vineyards of Southern Australia, and he also has a fine taste in cars: here he is above in his Teal Type 59 on the day when our own Oz Tealer Keith Lidgerwood (now sadly departed) visited him there three or four years ago, and ….
…here’s the cockpit and exhaust detail of Robin’s fine Type 59. A couple of glasses of the finest red were consumed that day, I believe.

Jim Cope imported this beauty from Cambridge, UK, in 2014, and has had considerable work done on the cooling system, since the high altitude and considerable heat of Johannesburg led to a tendency to overheat. The wheels were blue, but are now back to silver, with some additional charming details on this fine Type 59:

Variable Distance Teal
‘What’s that?’, you ask quite reasonably – a variable distance Teal? A variable distance from home, that is, home where it was conceived – sometimes thousands of miles, sometimes 30 miles (Liverpool); because this Teal is an attraction on a cruise ship…
How many other Teals are there abroad? We don’t know, but here’s an estimate:
France (5+), Belgium (3+), Netherlands (5+), Germany (5+), Irish Republic (1+) Switzerland (1), Spain (2+), Italy (1+), Malta (2), Cyprus (2), South Africa (1),Japan (1), Australia (1). Thus there are at least 30 Teals abroad, with possibly as many as 50.
Does any Tealer have better knowledge of the number of Teals abroad? Any updates most welcome! Scandinavia? Austria? Canada? USA? Thank you.

We’re just back from lovely Malta (OK, I’m biased, Francesca is from Malta), where several Tealers have spotted this fine Teal parked outside their excellent Classic Car Museum at Qawra. It’s a sort of come-on to lure visitors into the museum, and it works. The Bugatti badge probably helps.

At David Ward’s Egham garage yesterday (21 Sep) I was delighted to see four Teals: Dizzy, Gigi, David’s own DNA, and the splendid Teal Grand Tourer (‘The Cream Cracker’), repatriated by David B and Janice after 28 years in Belgium – a fine car re-discovered.
My main purpose at David’s was for my MG TF: a cleaning underneath, de-rust of surface rust and then waxoil of key areas, as well as the annual MOT test. I also spent a delightful day with David chatting about all things Teal and much else, and drove back happily, with the top down and the wind in the hair, through sunlit September Surrey and Sussex – all Tealers will know that feeling of joy on the winding minor road, surrounded by open fields and woodlands, and a with a responsive car in one’s hands – a total delight!

SEPTEMBER 2016: TEALERS IN N. WALES
From 4th to 7th September, 21 Tealers * met up in Llangollen, North Wales, for a Teal club get-together organised by Glen and Maggi, with a magnificent wind-blown drive round the hills and narrow lanes of rural Wales, preceded by a day out in two rented narrow-boats on the Llangollen Canal, and by a visit to the local car museum. Emphasis was also on the social side in the Chainbridge Hotel, built right alongside the impressive, noisy, fast-flowing, rocky River Dee in spate.

At the Llangollen Car Museum on the Sunday, three wise men (well, John, Colin and George) admire Tealer Vince’s magnificent Onyx ( a little jewel ) with Teals beyond…the Onyx is also seen below:
The Onyx’s beautifully-finished 1400 cc K-Series engine is shown here. Vince is a perfectionist, and it shows.
On the narrow boats on the beautiful Monday it quickly became clear that two Tealers stood out as to the rudder born, captains of their vessels: Colin and John. Others, including notably your correspondent, belonged to the crash and bump school, as they zig-zagged erratically downstream, colliding with anything that obstructed their passage…. Here are the natural stars, and their shipmates:
The Tuesday Teal Run departed at a leisurely 1000, guided by Glen and Maggi, who led us up into the hills via the dramatic Horseshoe Pass, then threading via a good B-road through attractive scenery to join the A5 and a pit stop for coffee (and Vimto) at the Country Cooks Cafe at Corwen (good car park too). As we swung north in close formation dark clouds gathered, and we pulled into Betys-y-Coed for exploration and lunch – hoods went up and tonneaus went on as the drizzle continued (well, we were in Wales after all). Our leader (Captain Sensible) was reasonably confident that the skies would clear after lunch, and so it proved: A wizard return run through narrow lanes, snaking hill roads, cattle grids and sheep hazards ensued, ending back at Llangollen town for ice cream, Coronation chicken sandwiches, and Welsh cream teas with Earl Grey (not all at once).

MAGNIFICENT NEW TEAL TYPE 43
Our Teal colleage in the Netherlands Aaldert Postma has been on a five-year mission to design a new Teal Type 43, commission the car and have it built in the UK by Mike Hall, transport it to Holland, re-engineer the 2500 Triumph straight 6 motor, sort out the transmission system, commission a totally new 1920s-look hood, install electrics and instruments, trim and paint the beauty and then put her on the road for trials. His dedication has been rewarded in August 2016 near Amsterdam when this magnificent Teal Type 43 finally took to the roads as seen here on its trial run – with no faults found.
The delightful result, with Teal badge proudly displayed at the top of the radiator mesh, deserves the highest praise. We congratulate you, Aaldert, for both the concept and the determination over several years to make this fine Teal a reality. She makes an admirable companion for your other Teal, her splendid sister Type 35 below. Bravo! Een uitstekend resultaat!

At David Ward’s Egham garage yesterday (21 Sep) I was delighted to see four Teals: Dizzy, Gigi, David’s own DNA, and the splendid Teal Grand Tourer (‘The Cream Cracker’), repatriated by David B and Janice after 28 years in Belgium – a fine car re-discovered.
My main purpose at David’s was for my MG TF: a cleaning underneath, de-rust of surface rust and then waxoil of key areas, as well as the annual MOT test. I also spent a delightful day with David chatting about all things Teal and much else, and drove back happily, with the top down and the wind in the hair, through sunlit September Surrey and Sussex – all Tealers will know that feeling of joy on the winding minor road, surrounded by open fields and woodlands, and a with a responsive car in one’s hands – a total delight!

SEPTEMBER 2016: TEALERS IN N. WALES
From 4th to 7th September, 21 Tealers * met up in Llangollen, North Wales, for a Teal club get-together organised by Glen and Maggi, with a magnificent wind-blown drive round the hills and narrow lanes of rural Wales, preceded by a day out in two rented narrow-boats on the Llangollen Canal, and by a visit to the local car museum. Emphasis was also on the social side in the Chainbridge Hotel, built right alongside the impressive, noisy, fast-flowing, rocky River Dee in spate.

At the Llangollen Car Museum on the Sunday, three wise men (well, John, Colin and George) admire Tealer Vince’s magnificent Onyx ( a little jewel ) with Teals beyond…the Onyx is also seen below:
The Onyx’s beautifully-finished 1400 cc K-Series engine is shown here. Vince is a perfectionist, and it shows.
On the narrow boats on the beautiful Monday it quickly became clear that two Tealers stood out as to the rudder born, captains of their vessels: Colin and John. Others, including notably your correspondent, belonged to the crash and bump school, as they zig-zagged erratically downstream, colliding with anything that obstructed their passage…. Here are the natural stars, and their shipmates:
The Tuesday Teal Run departed at a leisurely 1000, guided by Glen and Maggi, who led us up into the hills via the dramatic Horseshoe Pass, then threading via a good B-road through attractive scenery to join the A5 and a pit stop for coffee (and Vimto) at the Country Cooks Cafe at Corwen (good car park too). As we swung north in close formation dark clouds gathered, and we pulled into Betys-y-Coed for exploration and lunch – hoods went up and tonneaus went on as the drizzle continued (well, we were in Wales after all). Our leader (Captain Sensible) was reasonably confident that the skies would clear after lunch, and so it proved: A wizard return run through narrow lanes, snaking hill roads, cattle grids and sheep hazards ensued, ending back at Llangollen town for ice cream, Coronation chicken sandwiches, and Welsh cream teas with Earl Grey (not all at once).

MAGNIFICENT NEW TEAL TYPE 43
Our Teal colleage in the Netherlands Aaldert Postma has been on a five-year mission to design a new Teal Type 43, commission the car and have it built in the UK by Mike Hall, transport it to Holland, re-engineer the 2500 Triumph straight 6 motor, sort out the transmission system, commission a totally new 1920s-look hood, install electrics and instruments, trim and paint the beauty and then put her on the road for trials. His dedication has been rewarded in August 2016 near Amsterdam when this magnificent Teal Type 43 finally took to the roads as seen here on its trial run – with no faults found.
The delightful result, with Teal badge proudly displayed at the top of the radiator mesh, deserves the highest praise. We congratulate you, Aaldert, for both the concept and the determination over several years to make this fine Teal a reality. She makes an admirable companion for your other Teal, her splendid sister Type 35 below. Bravo! Een uitstekend resultaat!

TEALS – Mid-August 2016
Last month Neil and Pam of Phoenix fame joined Colin and Fiona (Vital Spark) at Tealer’s John and Wendy’s in Shropshire for a few days of Tealing (and eating). Here Fiona and Colin come face-to-face with a sheep drove up John and Wendy’s drive – luckily Vital Spark can take it….

The question is often asked: are there many Teals abroad? The answer is yes. Where? people then ask. Well, let’s start with Japan – above is Mr Tominari’s fine Type 59 Teal parked outside a Tokyo restaurant.

OK, that was a Teal Type 59 in Japan, but what about a bit further away?
Robin Day is a fine wine creator in the vineyards of Southern Australia, and he also has a fine taste in cars: here he is above in his Teal Type 59 on the day when our own Oz Tealer Keith Lidgerwood (now sadly departed) visited him there three or four years ago, and ….
…here’s the cockpit and exhaust detail of Robin’s fine Type 59. A couple of glasses of the finest red were consumed that day, I believe.

Jim Cope imported this beauty from Cambridge, UK, in 2014, and has had considerable work done on the cooling system, since the high altitude and considerable heat of Johannesburg led to a tendency to overheat. The wheels were blue, but are now back to silver, with some additional charming details on this fine Type 59:

‘What’s that?’, you ask quite reasonably – a variable distance Teal? A variable distance from home, that is, home where it was conceived – sometimes thousands of miles, sometimes 30 miles (Liverpool); because this Teal is an attraction on a cruise ship…
How many other Teals are there abroad? We don’t know, but here’s an estimate:

My main purpose at David’s was for my MG TF: a cleaning underneath, de-rust of surface rust and then waxoil of key areas, as well as the annual MOT test. I also spent a delightful day with David chatting about all things Teal and much else, and drove back happily, with the top down and the wind in the hair, through sunlit September Surrey and Sussex – all Tealers will know that feeling of joy on the winding minor road, surrounded by open fields and woodlands, and a with a responsive car in one’s hands – a total delight!

SEPTEMBER 2016: TEALERS IN N. WALES
From 4th to 7th September, 21 Tealers * met up in Llangollen, North Wales, for a Teal club get-together organised by Glen and Maggi, with a magnificent wind-blown drive round the hills and narrow lanes of rural Wales, preceded by a day out in two rented narrow-boats on the Llangollen Canal, and by a visit to the local car museum. Emphasis was also on the social side in the Chainbridge Hotel, built right alongside the impressive, noisy, fast-flowing, rocky River Dee in spate.

At the Llangollen Car Museum on the Sunday, three wise men (well, John, Colin and George) admire Tealer Vince’s magnificent Onyx ( a little jewel ) with Teals beyond…the Onyx is also seen below:
The Onyx’s beautifully-finished 1400 cc K-Series engine is shown here. Vince is a perfectionist, and it shows.
On the narrow boats on the beautiful Monday it quickly became clear that two Tealers stood out as to the rudder born, captains of their vessels: Colin and John. Others, including notably your correspondent, belonged to the crash and bump school, as they zig-zagged erratically downstream, colliding with anything that obstructed their passage…. Here are the natural stars, and their shipmates:
The Tuesday Teal Run departed at a leisurely 1000, guided by Glen and Maggi, who led us up into the hills via the dramatic Horseshoe Pass, then threading via a good B-road through attractive scenery to join the A5 and a pit stop for coffee (and Vimto) at the Country Cooks Cafe at Corwen (good car park too). As we swung north in close formation dark clouds gathered, and we pulled into Betys-y-Coed for exploration and lunch – hoods went up and tonneaus went on as the drizzle continued (well, we were in Wales after all). Our leader (Captain Sensible) was reasonably confident that the skies would clear after lunch, and so it proved: A wizard return run through narrow lanes, snaking hill roads, cattle grids and sheep hazards ensued, ending back at Llangollen town for ice cream, Coronation chicken sandwiches, and Welsh cream teas with Earl Grey (not all at once).

DUTCH TREAT
MAGNIFICENT NEW TEAL TYPE 43
Our Teal colleage in the Netherlands Aaldert Postma has been on a five-year mission to design a new Teal Type 43, commission the car and have it built in the UK by Mike Hall, transport it to Holland, re-engineer the 2500 Triumph straight 6 motor, sort out the transmission system, commission a totally new 1920s-look hood, install electrics and instruments, trim and paint the beauty and then put her on the road for trials. His dedication has been rewarded in August 2016 near Amsterdam when this magnificent Teal Type 43 finally took to the roads as seen here on its trial run – with no faults found.
The delightful result, with Teal badge proudly displayed at the top of the radiator mesh, deserves the highest praise. We congratulate you, Aaldert, for both the concept and the determination over several years to make this fine Teal a reality. She makes an admirable companion for your other Teal, her splendid sister Type 35 below. Bravo! Een uitstekend resultaat!

New Teal of the Week No 150
Re-discovered in Somerset this month (August 2016) is this early Teal Type 35, fibreglass but with a steel bonnet; unusually for an early car it is complete with a Triumph 6-cylinder 2000 cc motor, and is for sale at £10,000….

TEALS – Mid-August 2016
Last month Neil and Pam of Phoenix fame joined Colin and Fiona (Vital Spark) at Tealer’s John and Wendy’s in Shropshire for a few days of Tealing (and eating). Here Fiona and Colin come face-to-face with a sheep drove up John and Wendy’s drive – luckily Vital Spark can take it….

The question is often asked: are there many Teals abroad? The answer is yes. Where? people then ask. Well, let’s start with Japan – above is Mr Tominari’s fine Type 59 Teal parked outside a Tokyo restaurant.

Robin Day is a fine wine creator in the vineyards of Southern Australia, and he also has a fine taste in cars: here he is above in his Teal Type 59 on the day when our own Oz Tealer Keith Lidgerwood (now sadly departed) visited him there three or four years ago, and ….
…here’s the cockpit and exhaust detail of Robin’s fine Type 59. A couple of glasses of the finest red were consumed that day, I believe.

OK, that’s a Teal Type 59 in Japan, and also in Australia – and there’s another Type 59 in the Southern Hemisphere – in Johannesburg, South Africa:
Jim Cope imported this beauty from Cambridge, UK, in 2014, and has had considerable work done on the cooling system, since the high altitude and considerable heat of Johannesburg led to a tendency to overheat. The wheels were blue, but are now back to silver, with some additional charming details on this fine Type 59:

Variable Distance Teal
‘What’s that?’, you ask quite reasonably – a variable distance Teal? A variable distance from home, that is, home where it was conceived – sometimes thousands of miles, sometimes 30 miles (Liverpool); because this Teal is an attraction on a cruise ship…
How many other Teals are there abroad? We don’t know, but here’s an estimate:
France (5+), Belgium (3+), Netherlands (5+), Germany (5+), Irish Republic (1+) Switzerland (1), Spain (2+), Italy (1+), Malta (2), Cyprus (2), South Africa (1),Japan (1), Australia (1). Thus there are at least 30 Teals abroad, with possibly as many as 50.
Does any Tealer have better knowledge of the number of Teals abroad? Any updates most welcome! Scandinavia? Austria? Canada? USA? Thank you.

The size of a Bugatti Type 37, and with the looks ( and handling) of a starlet, this Onyx is a real gem… powered by 1500 cc, just like a Bugatti Type 37.

A couple of months ago I met a charming couple of brothers in our Sussex village driving a Fergus Mosquito. I took a couple of photos of their car and had a good chat, then as I was near my house I showed them photos of Tealer Keith Lidgerwood’s Mosquito, which he was kind enough to let me drive (see photos). From the post on the Discussion Forum, it seeems that the Sussex Mosquito is now up for sale…
